Five major events through which Italians came to know Korea well.
There are two examples from sports and three from popular culture that illustrate this idea. It’s definitely something worth thinking about.
First, in the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup, Korea’s victory over Italy in the round of 16 became a historic moment. Soccer is more than just a sport in Italy—it’s practically a way of life.
Second, when Kim Min-jae led Napoli to a championship, it was another iconic achievement for Korean sports on the global stage.
From the world of popular culture, PSY’s Gangnam Style was a groundbreaking moment that introduced K-pop to a global audience.
Squid Game also captivated the world, becoming one of Netflix’s most-watched series and sparking countless discussions about its themes.
And here’s something I hadn’t even thought about before—the Baby Shark song. It’s one of those viral phenomena that’s impossible to ignore.
Most recently, BLACKPINK’s Rosé released a song called Apartment. Within just a week of its release, it seems poised to take the world by storm.
